Just finished reading the classic self-help book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I'll save you some time. Here they are:

Be proactive: You have a natural need to emphasise effect on the world around you, and therefore don't spend your time just reacting to outside events and circumstances. Take control and assume accountability for your lifetime.

Begin with an end in mind
: Don't spend your life working aimlessly, handling whatever job comes to hand. Have a vision for the future and also align your actions so to make it into a fact.

Put first things first
: To Enhance your job, concentrate on what's important, meaning the things that bring you closer to your vision of the future. Don't get distracted by pressing but ultimately unimportant tasks.

Think win-win: When negotiating with other people, do not attempt to get the biggest slice of this pie, but rather find a division that is beneficial and acceptable for all parties.

Seek first to understand, then to be understood
: If a person presents us with a problem, we often jump right to prescribing an answer. This is a mistake. We must first take the time to really listen to another person and only then make recommendations.

Synergize
: Adopt the guiding principle that the contributions of many will far exceed the sum total of individual contributions. This can allow you to accomplish goals you could not have reached on your own.

Sharpen the saw
: Do not work yourself to death. Try to get a sustainable lifestyle that affords you time to recover and recharge, so you are able to remain effective in the long-term.
